Strongly improved NXP-hosting via Content Delivery

A co-operation of TriMM, Level 3 and Easynet has resulted in a strong improvement of NXP’s website achievements. The website achievements have been enhanced by as much as 300 % and at the same time the network expense is reduced.

Many data
International clients can apply to the NXP-website for technical drawings and datasheets among other things. The website visits and the number of downloaded documents have greatly increased of late, partly because NXP no longer edits paper handbooks. Every day the website has 220.000 pageviews, which results in 20 GB of data traffic. In addition visitors download about 75.000 PDF files every 24 hours. In Asia, as a matter of fact, this resulted in a slower operation of the website. “We aim at quickly offering the information desired by our clients” Mike Roberts, NXP’s Service Delivery Manager, says. ”In Asia, however, the achievements did not come up to our high standards. In certain regions, for example, it took 13 to 15 seconds to download a datasheet. In comparison: in Europe this only takes 3 to 4 seconds”.

Ambitious goals
NXP made it its object to improve the achievements of the website and at the same time to reduce the cost of network, particularly in the Asiatic region. “It goes without saying that we want to offer the best online experience to our clients. From the seven potential suppliers we have finally chosen, after an RFP, for the total solution of TriMM, Level 3 and Easynet. Not only have the achievements been improved because of this, we also make more efficient use of the network capacity, with lower expense as a result” so Roberts said.

The result
The solution provides the setting up of a Content Delivery Network, in which data reside in two Easynet-datacenters (New York and Amsterdam). From various Points of Presence (PoP), throughout the world, visitors find connection with the data. Frequently consulted webpages or much downloaded datasheets are placed in cache on the P0Ps. This accelerates the searching for and downloading of information. Thus network achievements in Asia have improved by 300% and European internet users can navigate and download by as much as 50% faster.

NXP is very satisfied with the solution offered by TriMM, Level 3 and Easynet. Roberts: “We are now considering if we can also connect our Extranets to this network, in order to improve the achievements of those sites. The possibilities of this network are far from being exhausted”.
