Competence Oriented Police Education

The Police academy wants agents (in training) to practice in the most authentic possible way in a realistic situation. In short: Learn to solve ‘cases’ such as detect and dismantle illegal cannabis plantations. Trimm, working together with the police academy, built the virtual Behrloo city. In this scenario based ‘Serious Game’ playing is no longer a game.

Serious Gaming? Serious Learning!
The starting point for the design of the Serious Game ‘Behrloo’ were the four basis elements.

  • A good scenario where you can end up in various situations
  • A supple game play
  • A user friendly interface
  • Realistic visualisations

These four elements keep the game challenging. In Behrloo the initiative always stays with the user who just as in real life enjoys a large capacity of freedom. By taking care of adequate feedback in these actions the learning effect is optimised.

Behrloo grows
Behrloo is set up in a modular way and consists of:

  • The game engine (designed in .Net & Flash)
  • Scenario’s in operational, tactical and strategic levels
  • Multimedial content

Using this modular set up the Police Academy can feed new scenario’s into Behrloo. By applying this the city Behrloo becomes more realistic so that the police trainees can practice in a safe and playful way.
